How do I take care of my office chair?
Simple monthly habits that double the life of a good chair — especially important in the Saudi climate.
A good chair will outlive its warranty by years — if you give it ten minutes a month. Here is the routine our facilities clients in Riyadh follow.
Weekly (under 2 minutes)
- Vacuum the seat pan and back with a soft brush attachment
- Wipe armrests with a slightly damp microfibre cloth
- Spin each caster — if any feel sticky, drop one bead of silicone lubricant on the axle
Monthly (10 minutes)
- Tighten visible bolts on the base and underseat plate — vibration loosens them over time
- Check the gas lift for leaks by pressing the lever; the chair should drop smoothly under your weight, not in stages
- For leather: a thin coat of pH-neutral leather conditioner twice a year
- For mesh: compressed air through the weave to dislodge dust and lint
Saudi-specific tips
The desert dust gets everywhere. Keep chairs away from open windows, especially during haboob season. If your office cleans floors with strong solvents, lift the chair onto a desk during the cleaning pass — repeated exposure to floor chemicals degrades caster wheels.
When to call a technician
- The chair drops on its own when you sit (gas lift dying — easy fix)
- Tilt resistance gone or stuck (mechanism worn — replaceable)
- Cracking sounds on the back recline (frame issue — get it inspected immediately)
